Our Trips in and around Australia – this includes true outback Australia trip. Details are via this link.

How did I get into this hobby….I first started by listening to my AM commercial radio and at night I could hear interstate radio stations, mostly across the water from Tasmania, but others from around Australia.  I also heard some international stations on my normal AM transistor radio. This was before I owned a shortwave radio and I am not sure FM had started then either (First station was in 1980 in Melbourne). Some stations came in clearer than local stations, but not with the strength (not that I had a metre then).  Soon I got a short-wave radio given to me which was exciting, I was a young kid at the time.  It was here I first saw how bands change and don’t all sound or work the same.  Though all this didn’t include transmitting.

I got my first CB AM only radio.  Now I was able to transmit.  It was here I made several friends, one of which I still have today many many years later. The band was quiet at first, but in a few years it became crowded.

Single Side Band was another big step in the hobby where I could talk interstate, and overseas.  Quickly the house grew with huge antennas complete with rotators, and the shack started to have maps of Australia and the world.  Log books were started and the hobby exploded. It was fun.  A lot of fun.  My home was on a hill and I was talking around the world.  Remember this is well before mobile phones or the internet. The family car had a radio where I would try and talk to other operators from the back seat while my parents drove.

As I was very excited with radio, and electronics, I decided to get my Amateur licence.

With the help of a few licensed operators I had made, I got my advanced licence fairly easily (as I was studying electronics at the time).

Thanks again for visiting. This web site is still being built, so don’t forget to Follow us to get updates as they come. You can do this by the Follow Us box.

I also have a travel web site, so if you are interested in Australia at all, I highly recommend you visit it. One of our biggest trips was a 5-week holiday through outback Australia. We travelled through outback Australia to see why these remote locations are there, how they started, and what are they doing today. These locations are some of the most remote places in the world. This trip has an amazing amount of Australia’s information, pictures, maps and video’s and I guarantee you will learn something even if you are an Australian or been there before. See the Northern Australia trip via the link below. https://sangsteradventures.wordpress.com/

Hope to hear you on the air sometime soon!
